Army captain jailed for selling rocket launchers

AN Australian army captain who stole 10 rocket launchers from the military and sold them on the black market must have known they could end up in the hands of terrorists.
Shane Della-Vedova was sentenced yesterday to a maximum of 10 years’ jail, with a minimum term of seven years, after pleading guilty to stealing and selling the rocket launchers between 2001 and 2003 to a convicted criminal with terrorist links.
Sydney District Court judge Jonathan Williams said nine of the 10 rocket launchers sold on the black market by Della-Vedova remained missing, with little chance of recovery.
Jailing the former soldier, Judge Williams said it was “inconceivable” Della-Vedova did not consider the weapons would be intended for a terrorist act.
The man who bought the weapons from Della-Vedova was a convicted criminal associated with the Rebels motorcycle gang. He allegedly onsold them to a man with terrorist links.
One ended up in the hands of notorious Sydney criminal Adnan Darwiche, but the rest remain missing.
Della-Vedova, 46, claimed he had tarnished his 28-year service record in a moment of stupidity.
